re: One-note samba

The truth is that we are in desperate times, and the shock treatment the Democrats are trying, regardless of whether it will work or not, is unacceptable to you because it will raise your taxes. Your party simply cannot see any further than that, although I note when it's something you feel strongly about, like aircraft carriers, deficit spending and higher taxes are never an issue.

I think "whether it will work or not" is the critical issue, isn't it? I mentioned California for a reason. It's not the only state that lives by Democratic economic theory, with similar results. Look around. Look at the numbers. California is committing suicide. Companies are leaving the state. This is about a lot more than taxes. Taxes are just one symptom of encroaching government control at all levels. It's about destroying independence, innovation, and the flexibility of a decentralized system.

Tax cuts are based on the premise that people will spend their own money to create wealth for themselves. Politicians spend other people's money to buy themselves power. The former tends to be better in the long run for an economy than the latter.

BTW, you could buy 160 of the most expensive nuclear-powered aircraft carriers for the price of the "stimulus" bill just passed. That doesn't even count the $3.6 trillion 2010 budget. The construction of an aircraft carrier employs about 400 companies and about 100,000 people.

Perhaps if the wealthiest sectors of America, including the corporate structure, had spent more of their Republican tax cuts on new workers and plants instead of real estate deals and foreign factories and labor, we would not be in the mess we're in now. THAT is why nobody takes you guys seriously anymore.

See? You basically made that assumption up. Do you know where companies have been spending their money in recent years?

If we're not building factories in this country any more, I don't think it's because of conservative industrial policies, or taxes that aren't high enough.
