Are you including suppliers? Subcontractors? Do you realize that you're basically throwing manufacturing over the side in favor of service industries? When imports double, you going to try to patch that with import controls and taxes on imported goods? Those are just the unintended consequences I can come up with off the cuff.
I've got a better idea. How about we stop letting people in Washington who have no frigging idea what they're doing stop hitting the machinery with sledge hammers while telling us this will make it work better?
10 Something in the free market does not meet the approval of the government
20 Pass some arbitrary and uninformed law to try and "rebalance" things.
30 Things get screwed up even more.
40 Blame capitalism.
50 Go to 10.
The root cause of all of this is that real economic freedom is not compatible with massive government power and control. Never has been. If a government is given the choice between a healthy economy or its own power, it will choose the latter every time. Look at history.

And how would that work?

- I do not understand something about *this* recession...[big surprise]
- There was well over 200 billion worth of tax cuts in that stimulus package
- Once the markers were called...
- (targeted) government spending produces more jobs than tax cuts.
- re: I do not understand something about *this* recession
- Money
- Because this time, the tax cut came first.
