Hardly hero worship. Obama is off to a great start.

Buck Galaxy summed it up quite nicely about a week ago. See below.

Even this IAG bonus flare-up is turning out to be an excellent moral and ethical lesson in what is wrong in our corporate culture, and Obama is the one who will explain it, raise our consciousness, and lead us thru it to a better culture. He can do it.

"We have a president on steroids. The scope of this mans actions and accomplishments in less than 50 days is staggering.

His executive orders alone would be enough for any new administration's first two months. Just to name a few:

Decreeing an end to torture.
Setting a date for the closing of Guantanamo.
Extending health insurance to more children.
Reversing Bush-era policies on family planning.

Within his first month he pushed a historic stimulus package through to bolster demand and create or save 3.5 million jobs. Governors, business leaders and economists from both the left and the right have applauded the stimulus. GOP conservatives play politics and have criticized it all the while knowing it must be done.

He has reordered the nation's priorities from fighting wars to fixing Americas long term problems.

Health Care reform started again after so many years with a Health Care Forum, where everything can be put on the table. For the first time in a very long time the chances of real health care reform are good, bringing costs under control and health care for millions of uninsured. Taking the decisions about health care out of insurance companys hands and back in doctors' hands, and preventing perhaps millions who think they're insured from losing their homes due to catastrophic illness.

Energy independence is finally a priority. One so fundamental to our national security, that will no longer be sold out to the oil companies as new policies will be put in place to wean us off opec oil.

Environmental protection is now taken seriously again. Linking green technology to energy independence presents a tremendous opportunity. For starters, the presidents cap-and-trade system for carbon emissions has long be proposed as a market driven method to reducing green house gases.

Education reform is back on track. Obama will propose new school standards and merit-based teacher pay. Tax credits for college tuition, increasing the Pell Grant, and eliminating subsidies to banks participating in the student-loan program, thus cutting $50 billion from the 10-year deficit. Obama recognizes the returns to higher education are substantial for both the individual and the overall economy.

The Housing bill will prevent perhaps a million foreclosures, a problem at the core of the economic crisis we now face.

Revamping TARP to have transparency it did not have under the previous administration (leading to quite a bit of money vanishing). The banking plan is being done carefully despite the calls for faster action, so as not to have a repeat of what happened under Bush/Paulsen.

A badly needed tax cut for the middle class. 95% of Americans who need their money the most will pay lower taxes during this time of economic pain.

Introducing truth in spending for the first time in eight years. No longer will the costs of the Iraq War and Afghanistan War be hidden off budget from the deficit numbers. This restores integrity to the budget system and will producing real savings in Obamas budgets as those wars wind down.

Depoliticizing science, most notable examples being global warming and stem cell research. Obama has declared science policy will be based on facts and not ideology. Welcome to the 21st century America!

Stops signing statement practice Bush used to question (and thus break) statutory laws.

On foreign policy he has already taken America in a bold new direction:

We have an end date for the Iraq war.

We are moving aggressively to stabilize the situation in Afghanistan while simultaneously beginning efforts to reach out to moderate elements in the factions we are battling. Weve appointed a special ambassador to Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Under Clinton the State Dept will vastly expand the number of diplomats it has and thus be able to give greater attention to many ignored areas of foreign policy. We are launching a global diplomatic offensive aimed at improving our image in the world, and improving the conditions in many parts of the world.

We are resetting our relationship with Russia and will seek deep new strategic arms reductions, as well as cooperation on other security issues.

Weve appointed a Middle East special ambassador and have stated what we are seeking (an independent palestinian state) in a final peace settlement.

Obama has reached out to the Muslim world and will soon be making a major address to the Muslim world from a Muslim country. His popularity in the Muslim world is extremely promising and offers a huge opportunity I hope will not be wasted.

Here is a man obviously deeply committed to really fixing the nations problems, not just coasting along for his constituents ala GWB. As further proof, he even wanted to take on Social Security solvency but his own party balked and said it was too much to do this year. But clearly he is committed to fixing that too before he leaves office. He also took his allies in Congress to task for the $8B in earmarks in the $401B spending bill from last year. He did not win the day with them, and couldnt afford to lose their support now, but it clear he will revisit this problem down the road.

The man even wants to cure cancer.

Bold leadership. Inspiring young and old to achieve more. True change."
