I saw Koyaanisqatsi in a theater, years ago. Our culture has been saturated with jeremiads about the evils of technology since I was old enough to pay attention. The commentary on the producer's home page is quite thoughtful, unlike the diatribe posted with the film on the YouTube page.
What sort of "understanding" are we looking to find that we haven't arrived at after all these years? Have you ever seen anyone at all who has examined this issue to the level Burtynsky has, especially among the art world, who has found something good or beautiful about our technological civilization?
Every day I appreciate the technology that gives me clean water, health, comfort, and a standard of living where even the poor in our country live like the richest people of older times. This is not "life out of balance."
Like I said on another thread, a lot of people would get their consciousness seriously raised by having to live for a few years like a Native American of a thousand years ago.
