I think I would enjoy being a farmer. As a kid I stayed with several of my Arkansas relatives who were farmers. I always enjoyed being far away from the city and on the farms. I know it was hard work, but it was rewarding work.
I remember my 80 year old great Uncle being muscular and healthier than many 20 year olds.
I like talking with neighbors on the front porch verses watching TV. I like looking up at a dark sky full of stars, or seeing the fireflies in the woods and across the fields. I love sleeping in a screened porch and hearing the night sounds of nature.
Last year I got to experience living life without electricity for 2 weeks. For the most part I enjoyed it.
I am not talking about doing a Lee Adama and giving up all technology. If it wasn’t for modern medicine, I would have died 2 years ago, and I would have lost my son 10 years ago. And I am not talking about giving up electricity or transportation.
I could give up the gadgets. I don’t have a cell phone. About the only gadget I have is an ipod. My home computer is a 10 year old laptop running Windows ME. After working on computers all day I don’t even want to go near one when I get home. I have never texted. I hardly watch TV anymore, maybe an hour a day.
And I hate living near the big city.
I would enjoy being a farmer. Yes I know it was hard work, but I think it would be more rewarding than writing code all day. Give me the days of the front porch. Get me away from the big city. I could go for all of that.
The simple life appeals to me greatly.
