With very few exceptions, when given a choice, those living subsistence lifestyles will drop them in a New York minute for the more advanced lifestyles when they become available.

This annoys the heck out of the Enlightened of the West, who believe the universe is enhanced by having a quota of starving primitive "aboriginal peoples" available for the Enlightened to fly in, dance with, and take pictures of, until the Enlightened get bored and head back for the hotels.

The Enlightened are convinced that these people aren't nearly wise enough to know what is good for them, and should stay where they belong instead of harboring fantasies of heated homes, clean water, and children that don't die in droves.

Technology does not make for an affluent society.

Oddly, all the people who say that seem to live in affluent societies.
