And what will happen if your wife (who I assume is the one with the health insurance in your family) loses her job or becomes physically disabled herself? Will you be paying the outrageous costs of COBRA? Will you find a private plan that has huge deductibles that will drive you into bankruptcy if catastrophic illness or injury strikes?
I have done both in the past. The alternatives were expensive, but not hugely so.
Of course health care fits the insurance model. It just doesn't fit the illusion that it's possible to give everybody everything they need for free, to core of liberal economic thought. At some level, government will need to "make a profit" same as any other entity. At least if it's not going to drag the economy down to where Zimbabwe lives.
The idea that government controlled health care will deliver all good things to everyone is a delusion. The numbers don't add up, nobody's talking about where the money's going to come from and how, and much smaller countries than ours are reeling under the inevitable problems.
