re: The Brain and Spirituality

I heard the spirituality show on NPR on the way home from work tonight.

It was too good to be true: There are near-death experiences, astral projection, out of body experiences, tunnels of spiritual light and they suggest life after death. We may live forever AND be reunited with our loved ones, too, there is no finality and no mortality, not even a final judgement . Everything we want, everything we could wish for. Just like in that movie with Robin Williams.

I'm sorry, but you know what they say about something being too good to be true; it probably isn't. I can't take any of this seriously, it's just too easy to be real, to simple to be true, too convenient to be believable. And it all sounds suspiciously like what they taught us in church, or at least, the good parts. Is there nothing in eternity to surprise us, or at least, challenge us?

I'm sorry. I smell a rat. Surely, if there is a god and life after death, he can do better than this.
