back when we were stoned hippies...

...we used to play this game. We would turn the TV on to a dance program, it didn't matter which kind, ballet, square, jitterbug, ballroom, and turn the sound off. Then we would put on the radio and tune in a music station at random. Again, it didn't matter what kind, classical, rock, country, you name it.

If you stared at the dancers while listening to the music long enough, after a while it would look like the dancers where dancing to the music. The sound and the movement would blend together, as if one were made for the other. It's all in your mind, y'know. That is spirituality.

No, I'm not trying to be a smart ass. Spirituality, like all emotion, is real and it is valuable. In fact, it is the most important thing there is. But it is not something you go out and get, or something that happens to you. It is something you do, something you make. It comes from within, a product of the mind, not the heart.

Zoners find hard science incredibly spiritual, we see the universe out there as a great mystery and we are obsessed with that mystery, its beauty and complexity, its perfection. That is true spirituality. Without the spiritual dimension, that love and fascination with the purely physical universe, science would be about as much fun as dentistry.
