Under all your noble libertarian drivel and phony moderation is a primal fear that the endless accumulation and exploitation of the ownership elite is going to be inconvenienced. Your partisans have shown that they will stop at nothing to obstruct and pervert any policy that costs them a nickel.
This has happened time again in the past. Over and over, there has been obstruction and resistance to any action that might threaten their profit, and its not just in matters of the environment, it has touched every social or cultural movement. Your people opposed (not an inclusive list or in any particular order) the end of slavery, child labor laws, the 8 hour day and the 40 hour week, monopoly laws, workplace safety and health, labor unions, civil rights, racial equality and justice, state-supported education, women's suffrage (universal suffrage, too, if you go back far enough in history), public health measures, imperialism (both political and economic) regulation of banking and financial instruments--in short, anything that might cost them money, whether it actually did or not. Your entrepreneurial elite has opposed every single human progressive movement in history which might conceivably threaten or even affect their wealth and power and its unchecked growth. Which only serves to bring up another point: many of the reforms they opposed have actually benefited them in the long run, along with the other classes. It only demonstrates that along with their malevolent cruelty, greed and avarice, the monsters you worship and adore are not too fucking bright either.
So spare us the maudlin appeals to freedom and the rest of the crocodile tears, OK? YOU PEOPLE, or at least the vast collective, semisocialistic organizations you have created, have replaced the nobility and monarchies of the past as the major instrument of oppression and enslavement that exist in the human universe. Maybe you'll never get the message, but quit trying to ram it down our throats. We're grown-ups, we're just as smart as you, we're decent human beings too, we've worked and lived and survived and even prospered in the same universe you have. We have every right to arrive at our own conclusions. Face it, TB. we just don't want what you're selling. We seen it for the pathetic fraud and vulgar farce it always was. We have made other arrangements and they are working out just fine.
My only question is, what's in it for you? Why do you struggle so valiantly to further their cause? Those who truly benefit from these outrages will understandably be inclined to favor them. But you just work here, just like I do. You are just another wage slave like the rest of us. How did they con you into fighting their battles for them? They have no intention of allowing you to join their ranks just because you wave their banner and repeat their lies. Did they promise you that if you worshiped Mammon he would shower you with wealth and power? Were a few crumbs going to trickle down for you from their groaning tables? Was their rising tide going to float your boat? Did they prove to you that the laissez faire universe automatically rewards those who accept its calculus and its physics? Did it ever occur to you that perhaps what is wrong with your life is NOT caused by those who feel oppressed, exploited, ignored, and robbed, but perhaps by those who benefit from doing it to them?
Or are you trying to talk yourself into grabbing your musket, donning the gray, and joining the armies of the Confederacy, to fight for your God-Given constitutional right to own your very own slaves and run your very own plantation?
It wouldn't hurt to spend a little time now and then contemplating that the fact you feel powerless and helpless and threatened is not because of those who have less and less every day, and whose ranks you feel yourself sliding back into whether you like it or not. Face it. It is those exalted demigods you wish to join who are only interested in keeping you exactly where you are, or even better, shoving you down even further so they can harvest your meager belongings. You've sold your soul to the Devil, TB. And he's coming to collect.
Enjoy your tax cut, Brother.
