I certainly honor the years he spent in that Vietnamese prison cell but, seeing him up close in this state, watching his evolution over the last decade, there's been a fundamental change at least publicly in his ethics. To me, any illusion he's given of a real human soul has shown to be only after he took some public relations hit.
I can't tell you how many times I've written to him since he is my direct representative and never once have I received a reply, not even a form letter. That type of behavior to me indicates a man on a personal mission. His sense of duty and honor to his constituents takes a back seat to his own personal ambition.
You are right that on occasion he has come out publicly against torture but he has also followed the power in regard to that issue, standing firmly beside the neocons when they needed the votes to erode the Constitution and our rule of law.
Although I agree in principle that his inclusion on a truth commission would be a public relations coup to our idiot electorate, I have no faith that he couldn't and wouldn't be bought out by the targeted bunch in exchange for power or (and I've had this sneaky suspicion ever since that infamous video of him hugging GWB with that look of horror on his face as if he'd just embraced a leper) they've promised to hold back evidence they have of him doing some despicable deed.
McCain in my mind is now bought and sold. If he were on a truth commission he'd be the one coming up with the "magic bullet" theory.

- General Sanchez wants War Crimes Truth Commission
- He'd better be careful.
- You don't even remember who Sanchez, is, do you?
- There are several prerequisites for something like that.
