Involved the SERE program at the Air Force Academy. During the mid 1970's there was a scandal there involving torture training and the cadet instructors going too far. I can't find anything online and haven't bothered to check with the local paper archives. But I lived in the area when it happened, so I know it did happen. I recall there were injuries and other life threatening incidents, like hypothermia from ice baths. More recently, there were complaints by female cadets of simulated rapes at the fake prison camp on the grounds. (The most recent concerns of the USAFA are that it has become dominated by fundimentalist christians.)
Interestingly, our former AG, Mr. A.G., left the Academy immediately after his stint as an instructor in the SERE program about the time of the scandal.
