I have a phobia of spiders which is mostly well controlled, a few years ago I managed not to run out of a classroom screaming when a child tapped me on the shoulder. When I turned round he had a transparent pot with the intact body of a tarantula inside and was holding it just a few cm from my face.
Anyway, fast forward a wee while and some idiot had arranged for a company to come in with various ‘mini beasts’ to show a group of children. One child was crying because they were scared of spiders. The aforementioned idiot spoke up and explained that they also didn’t like spiders and perhaps if they stroked the tarantula (a Mexican red knee if you must know) then maybe the child could try to. So…the idiot did, so did the child. The child skipped off happily to play time whilst the idiot was in the restroom scrubbing their hands and trying not reacquaint themselves with breakfast.
