Flame » in reply to Ah, you mean a patriot is a collectivist.

Sure.

A collectivist can be a patriot. So can a jihadist. And if you ask the people who live in their nation and share their viewpoint, they ARE patriots.

A patriot need not hold any particular set of political beliefs or live in any particular nation.

So you're right. Many collectivists are patriots and depending upon the nation in which they live, their neighbors may view them as such - or not.

Like I've always pointed out - I came to the GOP after traveling through the eye of the needle of liberalism. When one reaches the peak of Mt. Liberal one realizes conservatism hand in hand with vigorous capitalism is a very necessary component of a prosperous nation/society and that liberalism is essential as well - in smaller doses. If I were forced to put percentages on it, I think a 70/30 mix would be about right.

Liberalism helps open new doors and venues, but conservatism provides the steady framework to expand into these uncharted territories.
