Isn't the real core of the issue unthinking allegiance to any ruling entity? Combined - all too often - with unthinking hostility to other nations and ideologies? The implied submergence of the individual in a larger group?

Does it really matter to the victims of history if the horde overruns them in the name of the Motherland or God?
