Re: Yet another try

So, drug companies are okay with profits? Medical equipment manufacturers? Hospitals? What level? How much money are doctors going to be allowed to make by the State? Who gets to decide what a "good living" is once you've annihilated the market forces entirely?

Subsidies over the years are WHY these things have costs that are going through the roof. Cutting out the middleman and subsidizing them directly, which is what you want for both colleges and healthcare, will make things worse. The rising prices will eventually force the government to impose wage controls, price controls, and all those other controls that make living in a collectivist economy so wonderful. Just wait until college administrators pulling down huge levels of compensation get hit with things like this. You might see a bit of political awakening going on once the ivory tower sinks down to where the rest of us have to live.

And you talk about banks and insurance companies. You don't think a government already drowning in overspending and deficits won't have an incentive not to make medical payments or deny care?

I'm sorry, but you're missing the bigger picture. I was hoping the analogy between nationalized higher education and nationalized health care would do the trick.
