This isn't it, and I believe there is a revolution brewing. Briefly, there are six contributing factors.
First, the increase in diversity and each element wanting a larger share of the pot, taken from the dominant, ruling minority. That has started.
Second, the huge number of people in prison. In a hard economy they will not be able to get jobs as employers increasingly want only people with snow-white records.
Those people in prison have a number children who are growing up in difficult circumstances with no positive role models. That underclass is extremely volatile. That has started.
Third, your basic underachiever has little chance to become someone who can buy a house, educate their children, and live better than their parents. About the best for many is a minimum-wage job supplemented with public aid. They used to be able to become plumbers, carpenters, truck drivers, small businessmen and women. That is a fact.
Fourth, as social services dry up the former middle class with experience more and more despair and frustration. Deprived of the opportunity to work for health insurance and pensions, as their situations become more and more desperate, they will have nothing to lose. That's going on.
Fifth, natural resources especially water will become a matter for regional stresses. States will be willing to do battle to protect energy and water, as well as food. We've seen strong hints of that.
And anthropormorphic global warming will disrupt global food production and distribution, threatening America in ways that we've never experienced before. By the time Americans get their heads out of the sand about that their business behinds will have been used in ways that would make the randiest 16th century British sailor blush. The ROW knows this already.
As the government becomes more and more obviously a tool of the wealthy and ultra-wealthy there will be large-scale disobedience from the one-time "silent majority". By now the majority of the population will feel disenfranchised because they are. The country will fracture. Possession will increasingly become a bit more than nine/tenths of the law. History. Life is lived forward but understood backward.
At that point we will have crossed malfunction to disorder to chaos to savagery. And out of those ashes will come the next try.
But that's all a ways off. The "Occupy" folks are merely a trial run, with people figuring out what works and what doesn't, where the weak spots are and how to exploit them. As ER said, we are much like Germany after WWI.

PS - "Not so" is no more a rebuttal than is some jingoistic cliche.
