I identified the two main tribes of Americans, who each gravitate toward the political parties you're so stuck on; you're confusing cause and effect. What separates us entirely cultural.
I'm having a hard time believing that you'd actually argue that 300 million people, divided in two, would suddenly stop disagreeing...that it'd be the end of politics, in other words. Are you serious? I give it maybe 24 hours after the referendum is approved before new political parties file incorporation papers in each nation. I'd expect not two political parties, but dozens, as we go through a sorting-out phase that'd be quite likely a political renaissance in its own right.
The political center of gravity would shift because of a breakup, but on this scale rest assured we'll never lose a broad spread of opinion pivoting on that center.
You'll still have no trouble finding an argument, Tom. Relax.
