This post takes me completely by surprise. First, I admire Obama enormously, for his patience, for his efforts to create a world for all Americans, for his willingness to try to deal with the Tea Party. I regarded those comments comparing you to him as a compliment.

Those are not popular views. They are accurate assessments, though. There comes to be a crisis of conscience - can I, personally, holding the values I hold, respecting of innocent people, tolerate a government which does not reflect these basic values?

Many people can live with indiscriminate killings, wars fought for strictly commercial reasons with a false moral excuse which causes misery to millions. Many people can allow themselves the rationalization that "they made us do it" as a cover for atrocities and crimes against humanity. One wonders if they allow the same for their children.

You might want to be careful. The political views you seem to advocate are loud echoes of what I have, and I'm quite unpopular for holding those views. You deride the jingoism which is the rallying flag for the majority of HZers at your peril. It's not only their highest moral value it's their deepest one, and sacred. Rather like the fundamentalists slogan about the Bible - God said it, I believe it, and that's it. "My country, and I don't care if it's wrong, perpetrates crimes against humanity, whatever, it is by definition right."
