Gerrymandering? Seriously? "Sweep...democracy under the rug"? What in the world makes you think that either (or more) of the resulting new nations would have a single party and reject democracy? Everyone in their component populations would be a former American and presumably possessing the full set of American ideals...and yet you imagine we'd junk it all at the first opportunity? The fact that that's your first thought speaks volumes about the red culture mentality.
I don't recall framing the issues as Democrat versus Republican. I've consistently described it as a culture clash, which I think puts the horse before the cart: Our current political nightmare is the symptom, not the cause of our problems. To see it the other way is simply circular, that politics is why politics is broken, and explains nothing.
It almost sounds like some people would prefer a civil war or splitting the country up instead of the most likely real-world alternative: Losing the next election cycle in a landslide.
Make that a second landslide.
That's some pretty silly snark, TB. I'm looking out way beyond the next election and trying to forecast where the storm will toss us. Sure, I'm advocating the breakup, and that's because I see it as the best of a bad lot of futures.
As I wrote elsewhere, either we all stand separately, or we all hang by the neck together. It's about survival, not the next election.
Get serious.
