The money that government employee spends first had to be taken from taxpayers. Given who pays most of the taxes in this country, it's likely coming from the companies where he's spending the money. Assuming he spends it on American products, of course. Try moving coins around on a table to work this out if you have to. This is also true of "rebates" and other checks written on the Treasury, or "stimulus" deals.
At least a government employee, one who does something useful for his money, creates some real wealth which helps. Handouts, or money spent on things that are wealth drains, are useless. It does buy votes, though, which is usually the real point.
What we need are new businesses, innovation, and wealth invested in things that make a profit, not government "investments" in things that lose money year after year. Wealth in the private sector tends to move toward things that make money. Wealth in government hands moves toward things that benefit the politicians. But then, with an entire political movement that thinks "profit" is a dirty word, what would you expect?
The Democratic Party couldn't see "basic economic principles" with a telescope.
