Hi Tom,
Public elementary schools have a whole different breed of educator - I'll call them apolitical, smarmy, mothering types. They fade out and diminish to very small quantities in the high schools. They still really like kids and people.
I classify Mary Anne as among this group...
(This may be unfair...but we all make judgement calls - and this is actually a compliment)
Universities require much more political correctness, institutional 'prestige' (aka agenda-compliance) to pass through the hoops - smarmy motherly types are easily filtered out.
Liberal patriarchs squash any non-conformists within the faculties of the universities. And its done with the same efficiency as ethnic cleansing - perhaps more efficiently.
There are very few "Colonel Dubois' " out there teaching. ;-) Perhaps one in a thousand.
They couldn't even get hired.
While we certainly would not want all our teachers to be Dubois clones - one in twenty would be a nice balance.
However, the elementary schools and even kindergartens are not all apolitical folks.
I was semi-surprised to learn that now Martin Luther King is taught as an equal to Lincoln and right alongside him and George Washington.
No offense intended to anyone, but Martin Luther King's contribution to America is about 1/100th of Washington's and 1/1000ths of Lincolns.
Of course such rhetoric marks me a 'Klansman' right?
Nope...just a well read historian - who knows the facts and dislikes disproportionate representation in the name of so-called 'balance'.
Educators are generally a tame group as a whole. Not meek, but not really assertive either. This unassertiveness and impotence in the external world is made up for in the classroom - by their efforts to mold the next generation.
This is what makes them such an insidious threat to the well being of the US and the world.
No public orator has as captive an audience as the school teacher.
It is this forced indoctrination that makes schools very destructive indeed.
Keep 'preachin to the choir' Tom - I know I wont stop ;-)
