If prostitution is legalized the pimps disappear and are replaced by organized crime bosses just as was done with gambling.

Anything that is very lucrative will always be staked out by those who want to cash in.

So soon the asian gangs, which have proliferated in CA and the old school mafia can "protect" the prostitutes in their neighborhoods and collect a fee.

The private prostitute - by her very profession can't be private for long unless she moves town to town after each "john". So naturally they will be targets for predators.

Legalizing prostitution, like legalizing drugs, is IMHO a very bad idea, that underestimates the depravity of human nature and its ability to take a foot when you give an inch.

One simply needs to look at any of the many European red light districts, or take a trip quick to Vegas to see the strung out junkies and prostitutes and realize that this is not the epitome of human societal development. ;-)

A nation of Vegases<sp?> or redlight districts and an endless parade of strung out junkies and city crews cleaning up the OD'd kids from the bath rooms where they die would be a huge blow to the progress mankind has made in the past hundred years.

Pandering to the lowest common denominator is never a real intelligent idea.
