Where is Marcus Aurelius when you need him?

Or any of his 4 predecessor for that matter.

Maybe I am being too cynical but I have given up on partisan politics. Yes, there are outspoken differences in philosophy, approach, or whatever you choose to call it. The problem, (or the good news, if it is not your party), is that so little of the platform is accomplished, it doesn't really matter who wins. In my opinion much of this is planned. The power brokers are on both sides and they are often status quo, one hand washes the other, guys.

So, there is no real difference in the parties, there is only difference in the man, the leader, the place where the buck stops.

We have had a succession of ineffectual individuals who regardless of good or bad intentions, were incompetent to get the job done. We are pretty much stuck with this because of our excellent constitution and our democratic tradition. Until a man strong enough and smart enough to manipulate the system and ignore the power brokers, comes along, we will continue to get the same old, same old.

What will change this endless cycle is some disaster like Hyper-inflation, a nuclear level terrorist event, or a zombie apocalypse :). If we are faced with ruin, the constitution and all that goes with it is over. We had better hope that the person (or persons) who winds up with the power, is a better man than we have seen in many years.

As I alluded in the beginning, the brutal fact is, nothing would be better for us, before the crisis comes, than the good emperor, who could fix the problems and relinquish his power.

Too risky? probably, but like it or not, it will come when the shit hits the fan.
