Re: Polar bears in the South Pacific again.

I stop in the mid 1800s because things only got worse between then and the beginning of the 20th century. It was the introduction of social legislation, safety and consumer protections, anti-trust laws, child labor laws and universal education, conservation, labor unions, universal suffrage and the welfare safety net that tamed Capitalism and made it both tolerable, and more productive. You will note that period also coincided with our rise as a great power and a champion of liberty throughout the world. That's what brought the immigrants here.

You want to take us back before that time. Every single reform that has made us prosperous and secure has been bitterly opposed, sometimes violently, by the so-called entrepreneurial class and their pathetic misguided wannabees.

I don't want to go back to the Gilded Age. I don't trust those people. It's that simple.
