Information is power. Even if you don't illegally profit yourself from insider trading, you can use your inside knowledge, (or your reputation for having access to inside knowledge), to influence people and drive events. Sometimes, it even works, but rarely does it tun out the way you expected.
Money is power, too. After all, what is money but information? It is a symbol for wealth, and symbols are all about information, one thing representing another, money is the ability to make things happen, so knowing what will happen, or being able to make something happen, is of value.
Don't let anyone con you into into thinking there are "Laws of Economics" similar to "Laws of Physics". Other than a few very simplistic and obvious relationships, like Supply and Demand, economics isn't something that happens, its something that people do. The economists, the economic press, the pundits, journalists, history, politicians, regulators the whole lot of them has never successfully predicted any economic event. They have all been precipitated by someone deliberately doing something, either because he knew something, or thought he knew something.
People with lots of money have the power to make things happen, even more so than politicians who control courts, legislatures, even police guns and army bayonets. This is why I have never seen politics as a struggle between businessmen and politicians. Most of the time, you can't tell them apart.
