"It looks much better in the whole.
The problem is in the use of the term fundamentalist. That is like the term liberal or conservative. Many Christians consider themselves fundamentalist and would proudly acknowledge same. Others see fundamentalism as bad regardless of the degree that it is practiced.
Obviously, Zubrin was referring to the extreme brand of Islam that is practiced by a minority of Muslims but still has managed to permeate Muslim society to the extent that it has facilitated a dark age."
This isn't obvious to me. It seems to me that Zubrin is saying that the "fundamentalists" took over Islam a long time ago. So rather than refer to radical aspects of modern Islam he talking about "mainstream" or the whole shebang.
It seems to me that once again Zubrin has got some superficial (and wrong) understanding of some issue and is sprouting off as though he were same expert in the area.
I guess that *ok* if you were in some bar or something- or writing some trashy fad book. BUT Zubrin should realize he represent a fair number of people and is trying to build this to a broad base of support for Manned Mars mission. He should be more careful about what he saying- like maybe ask someone who knows at least a bit about the subject before sprouting his biaes.
I think what Zubrin has written clearly demonstrates he lacks the leadership quality needed for Mars Society or any group.
