But since you seem to have brought nit picking to an art form...
Is there a government in Kuwait? Yes
Does anyone pay taxes in Kuwait? No
So must government levy taxes to exist? No
(Of course that's an unfair example because the government in Kuwait is in essence a wealthy oil corporation that that functions also as government.)
In fact, the government of Kuwait pays its citizens a substantial amount every year just for the privialge of being citizens.
I think taxes are needed and in some cases I think government should exist for the betterment of society.
However: Should the government tax everything: every transaction, every dime of income, every lottery winning, every nobel peace prize award, every gain on the value of a person's home, every piece of real and tangible property, etc... and then top it off by levying confiscatory licensing and regulatory requirements on every activity under the sun?
Uncle Sam and the States seem to think so. There's where they lose me. The government should not involve itself in every human activity through a never ending expansion of the tax code.
