Another example

I'm pretty sure that Alaska doesn't have a state income tax. I was last there in 1990 so I don't recall if they have other taxes like sales or property taxes. I know for a fact that people who've lived in Alaska for more than 3 years qualify to receive a payment each year from the Permanent Fund established with oil revenues. The last I heard, this was a payout of about $1000 for every man, woman, and child that qualified. Alaska also has a state government. In fact, before the Permanent Fund was established, their legislature wanted to do what all governments tend to do when they come into a windfall - SPEND IT. They were falling all over themselves coming up with new government ratholes to spend the money. The people had other ideas. Imagine that.

As for the examples of taxation in America, here are the ones that I can think of off hand:

Federal Income Tax
Social Security Tax
Medicare Tax
Federal Gasoline Tax
Federal Excise taxes on some products
State Income Tax
State Income Tax
Property Tax
Library Tax
Sales taxes (plural - state and local)
State Gasoline Tax
Vehicle Use Tax (like paying sales tax on your vehicles every year)
Utilities taxes
Phone taxes

and, despite paying all these taxes all your life, if you somehow manage to accummulate an estate over a certain value, they can take upwards of 55% above that threshold in death taxes. What a country!

It's been said that taxes are the price we pay for a civilized society. Frankly, I can do with a bit less civilization, thank you.
