Re: Growing Food in Space

"The same food pyramid recommends 2-3 servings of milk, yogurt & cheese. However I do not believe these foods are actually required, since they come from cow's milk, and a substitute may be easier to provide on a space habitat, versus launching cows into orbit. And it is obvious that meat would be virtually impossible to provide."
Why would meat be virtually impossible to provide? Fish are easy to keep.
Goats can provide meat and milk, plus make handy garbage disposal- all your veggies are going to have waste products- stems of plants, apple cores, leftovers, ect. And animal waste products can be fed to the fish and goats (goats eat fish stuff, fish eat goat stuff). Animal excrement and other inedible organic matter can processed by bacteria which can produce methane as byproduct, this processed waste can then be processed in number of way so that it can be used as plant fertilizer. Rinse & repeat:)
