Space/Science » in reply to Luna or Mars ?

Either would be nice, and - - -

I believe the experience with the ISS may have disillusioned the public and the politicians with the idea of spending more money on space exploration in the short term. The Western world has squandered much of our public's interest and financial resources which could be devoted to space by over-selling what we have done, underestimating the benefits, and inflating the costs almost beyond imagination.

As one of the interviewees in the articles points out, the political will to spend vast sums in space just isn't there. I think one of the unintended consequences of over-hyping both the costs and expected performance of the space shuttle and ISS has been to very nearly destroy NASAs credibility.

China might want to do something, and may get the necessary credibility in both the technical and bugetary arenas.

And, I've been wrong before.
