Granted, there is neither the political will nor any serious commercial, scientific or strategic reason to go back there and a return seems more remote in time than Lindbergh's flight was to Apollo 11's.
One of the problems is that neither the Shuttle nor ISS are meant for any manned operation higher than the HST orbit and that the very morphology of the Shuttle prevents any big change without big expenses (like having a separated pod for the SSME's from the orbiter, which could have allowed for a better use of a Shuttle C).
So what could be the next best move towards the Moon (BTW, it's full at this very moment)?
Maybe a wheeled robot on one of the poles, with 2 cameras and a virtual reality device allowing us a great sense of being out there; however, there have been projects like that and none seem to go very far away from the drawing boards.
So what's the next-next best thing? Returning back to all the moonwalk videos and computer enhance them to make them atteleaevdrrt
