I think I've been throught the logic of this before, but whatever else, consider that my raising the prospect of a lunar based observatory just caused you to spend a considerable amount of time doing a first estimate as to what is required for a NEO detection system...

but besides having that merit, in point of fact a lunar based observatory could handle the problem...

i still like tom's idea on processing on the iss as well...
