Hey, Robert--
The idea is to pull people in.
If one group has a long-range big goal, that's where their attention will be focused. Have they no talent? Oh, they do. So why throw it away by throwing their dream away? Instead of ditching it, it makes more sense from a team-building perspective to reschedule it as the ultimate goal in the current initiative.
Does it make more sense to work with people with different (but ultimately compatible) long-term goals by convincing them that those goals will be served by short-term projects? Or are we going to waste more bandwidth calling each other stupidheads, dreamers, and spendthrifts?
Regards--
