Horse first, then cart
Hi, Mark--
One of my big hopes is that space colonization will result in a culture where scientific literacy has great value.
One of my big concerns is that we have a culture where scientific literacy has great value so that the people in the culture will be able to appreciate the importance of space colonization and to pursue it.
Educating from the top down only works in monarchic and oligarchic societies in which the majority take orders. A democratic society has to have the education first, from the ground floor on up, and then the program.
And that's another aspect of the problem.
