Purveyors of that crap are fond of the "surely the left does it too" defense, but you're right, it seems that only rightwing audiences gobble up that lurid tabloid style of political smear. As a liberal I get inundated with smears from the right against the left, but nobody's sharing any smears of the opposite polarity with me.
I know that I'm daring a shitstorm to make that observation, but dammit, if anybody wants to call me a liar, show me an equivalent flood of that kind of material attacking the right. Explain to me why, even though I know many more people who lean left than lean right, only the rightwingers persist in forwarding every last piece of nasty political bullshit to me. Against my wishes, in some cases, and I've had to set up email filters against it. Please do explain that.
It's easy to swerve offtopic on this thread, because we all can produce outrageous examples of the genre. A recent favorite: The $half billion subsidy to Solyndra ended up in Obama's Swiss bank account and that's really why the company failed. Never mind that the Obama DOJ has strong-armed the Swiss into opening the bank records and are busily ending secret Swiss accounts...why spoil a nice smelly smear with inconvenient facts?
