I doubt the goal is to influence every conservative, just the subset that's susceptible to this form of "argument".
Just for the record, I'd be surprised if you weren't embarrassed by those emails. Dude, this is Flame, bringing up stuff like that is part of the schtick; the point is to make you squirm. If you reverse-engineer the audience from the content of those emails, you won't find people like that hanging around here.
