Like nearly all areas of medical scientific research, stem cell research and cloning technology hold the promise of greatly improving our lives and our health, if proper safety precautions are taken, and the technical expertise and ethical practice of the practioners is assured. In other words, instead of stupidly (and in complete futility) banning these inevitable scientific advances, they should be promoted and supported, with careful oversight and appropriate controls and regulations in place, as is the case with every other field of medical science.
Those who still cringe in fear of the mythical ghosts and goblins of archaic religious views, those who fear in their ignorance that we are leading a dangerous assault on God himself, they are the true enemies of the human race, and stand in the way of our science-based evolution to higher, better forms.
In my view that's what this is all about - evolution and advancement. We as a race have finally reached the point where we can, for the first time, actually seize conscious control of the direction of our evolution, through our science and technology.
And some people can't handle the fact that God is no longer in control!
