Reproductive vs. therapeutic cloning
Therapeutic cloning, for stem cell research giving replacement tissues, organs, curing diseases, etc. should proceed immediately and could indeed benefit millions. Only the religious fanaticism of the ayatollahs running the US Congress, and others on the far right, is preventing it.
Reproductive cloning, for humans, should first be proven safe, then should proceed. Sure, the first attempts at cloning animals have gone through lots of failures and defects, but at the extremely rapid pace that the science is progressing, it's just a matter of time before cloning is just as safe, perhaps even safer, than traditional conception.
