<...Most??? There may be a few freakos on the fringes of any movement but MOST environmentalists are everyday people who care about the environment.
I should have been more precise. Most of the leadership of the environmental movement falls into that category. You are correct that most people who support the environmental movement are unaware of this.
In the same way, most of the leadership of the Democratic Party are raving socialists, whereas most people who vote Democratic are regular, otherwise sensible, salt-of-the-earth people who still think "Humphrey," "JFK," and "labor unions" when they think of a Democrat.
...If NOW is defending Andrea Yates they deserve strong criticism. The rest of your comments are ridiculous. The 20+ year rape accusation (by a woman who donated money to Clinton AFTER the alleged rape and whose former husband says she is lying) was never subject to cross examination and had not one shred of evidence to prove her accusation. The intern Clinton was "diddling" was consensual and no one's damn business.
Look me in the eye (well, figuratively speaking) and tell me that if exactly the same charges had been leveled against Ronald Reagan (or any other Republican leader), that two days later his lifeless political corpse would have been dangling from the highest edifice in Washington, crows feasting on his eyeballs and gleeful NOW demonstrators dancing with torches underneath. Never mind the long list of corporate leaders viciously destroyed by NOW and its myrmidons for the crime of having approached a female underling with the intent of having sex, consenting or otherwise.
...As for Clarence Thomas, NOW really had no cause to jump on Anita's side as it was a stale charge.
Maybe they had no cause, but jump on Anita's side they most certainly did.
The link above is part of a larger collection on NOW and sexual harassment. Note in particular the slightly different treatment of Bill Clinton, despite Ireland making statements (to her credit) condemning sexual harassment by politicians and defending Clinton's victims.
