I can understand how many Indians would be offended by names like Redskins or how they're represented by Cleveland's Mascot. After all, don't you think it'd raise an uproar if a team used another racial slur for their name, such as Kikes, Wops, Dagos, or God forbid, the "N" word complete with mascot in blackface.
On the other hand, I think the Seminole tribe in Florida has the right attitude. They license their name for a fee to the university. They also control how the name is represented. When you see the Florida Seminole on horseback in full tribal dress, well, that's a symbol of pride. There's absolutely nothing derogatory about how the Seminoles are represented. Perhaps the other tribes should do the same.
One other thing - in addition to doing creative things like licensing their name, the Seminole Tribe of Florida has branched out into other activities beyond cassinos. For example, they own the Micco Aircraft Company and produce the SP-20 and SP-26 aircraft. Sweet.
