True...but...

Hi Larry,

I agree regarding the big stuff, like planes tanks and other heavy artillery. Not only are some of the parts very complex - but the contracts we have with the manufacturers have become a lot more complex since the 40's - and slow down the production machinery.

However, for small munitions, rifles, ammunition shells and the general what have you of ground forces - these things have gone into overdrive.

The sense of patriotism which still lingers in some quarters of this nation pretty well - has "Pearl Harbor-ized" some of the workers and companies into pretty motivated workforces.

Then there is our selected overseas munitions purchases...which merely needed to increase to help prepare some folks for an "Iraq vacation".

The war in Afghanistan has been very good for munitions-makers - new ordnance has been designed and employed, lots of folks are working on creative tools which will further facilitate deployment in the future.

This conflict is bringing the electronic tools to bear and will probably be seen by history as the turning point for electronic observation and realtime electronic data gathering and relaying to the field and commanders who can use it.

And whoever said "It is best to come to war with more than two arms." knew what they are talking about - overkill doesn't exist when lives are on the line.

Best wishes,
