You are flat out wrong. The right of Israel to exist IS at the heart of the issue. It has never been recognised by most of the Arab World. The Palestinians should and will ultimately get the state they deserve, but they had a state handed to them in 1999 and they turned it down. They won't get a deal like that again. Arafat is an idiot.
Sharon started the current round of this violence with his antics and he IS the hardest line Israeli politician there is. I don't particularly like this guy but as hard line as he is, he is not a terrorist like Arafat. He is trying to avoid civilian casualties. More civilian Israelis have died from terrorist attacks under his government than any other though.
Bush and team ignored the region while it deteriorated more and more month after month, and then they had the gall to blamed Clinton's noble peace effort for the current violence. How pitiful to portray Clinton's courageous diplomatic effort negatively in order to hide their own political cowardice regarding the Arab-Israeli violence. The region could use a leader like Clinton now who understands the issues down to every last acre, and has the courage to keep trying.
