Of course you are right
The experiment only addressed a biological response to pleasure-producing drugs.
On the other hand blind taste tests point out that people prefer sodas that have more sugar in them (I'm sure there is some limit to the sugar content preferred - somewhere short of having to use an ice pick to chip hunks of soda off for consumption). Their intellects don't seem to get in the way much.
