< It's interesting that despite the politicians screaming about tobacco use, they don't make it illegal. Guess the tax money is just too sweet. Notice that it's immoral and evil for tobacco companies to profit from a product that kills people, but it's perfectly okay for governments to rake in loads of cash from a product that kills people.
Besides the tax money, think about the loss of jobs. What politicians want to put thousands of people out of work?
There should be absolutely no reason a private company could not test for drugs and not hire drug users, even if drugs were legal. There are many jobs where use of alcohol is a factor as well, like airline pilot.
I don't think there is a drug test that would show just when you smoked your last marijuana and how high you are like alcohol. Marijuana stays in the body for weeks and even months and todays standard is they just check for presence of the drug. Besides don't you think the lawyers would have a field day saying the company is unconstitutional as you couldn't prove when you were high?
It does work. A parent's example is the best teacher. But this has nothing to do with drugs being legal or not.
It certainly wouldn't work very well if the drugs were legal. The kids would just shine there parents off saying; but they are legal! When I'm of age I'm doing drugs! The point of the harm drugs does to you becomes mute just like alcohol has to many.
Hate to burst your bubble, but drug use is as old as civilization, and probably a lot older. It is actually the history of drug prohibition which is relatively new.
I know how long drugs have been used in civilization. Yes, prohibition and studies of drug users is what I was referring to. The 60's drug scene introduced a lot of people to illegal drugs but the previous generation was in the closet with regard to illegal drugs in comparison and we have learned a lot since then compared to the last hundred years. Eventually health issues will override politics.
