Don't think this is good.

"All that which is proper to the life of a rational being is the good; all that which destroys it is the evil."

Defining "evil" as everything which isn't something else doesn't even seem to fall under description. Which isn't definition, either.

"Proper to the life of a rational being."

There are two guys on a desert island. There is enough water to last two people a week, or one person two weeks.

Cain stabs and kills Abel so that one of them (Cain) might survive longer. Rational.

Cain is rescued 4 days later.

Would Abel's family properly regard Cain as evil?

It is rational, it makes perfect sense from his perspective, for GWB to start a war which kills Americans and Iraqis but results in increased dividends for American oil companies. This war will kill more Americans than Iraqi terrorism ever thought of, but it will result in massive dividends for American oil companies.

Is it evil to do that?

Again, I don't think that describing "evil" as that which isn't something else is a definition.
