In 2000, the top 50 percent earned about 87 percent of the total income. But before you get too smug, I should also point out that the cutoff point for being in the top 50 percent is anything over $27,700 a year.
The top one percent cutoff is anything over $313,500 a year. Top 5 percent: $128,300. Top 10 percent: $92,000. Top 25 percent: $55,200.
So, when you look around for the evil rich, many of us should avoid mirrors.
