Of course they pay most of the taxes. That's just math. They earn 87 percent of the income, and pay over 96 percent of the taxes (if life were really fair, they would pay only 87 percent of the taxes).
Where this statistic becomes important is when Democrats wail about across-the-board income tax cuts "going" mostly to the rich. If everyone gets a five percent tax cut, it is simple math that someone who pays thirty thousand a year in taxes (like me) would get to keep a larger chunk of money than someone who pays $500 a year in taxes. Or pays no income tax at all. Somehow, this is seen as "unfair," and that's what I object to.
