Interestingly enough, I have never located clear written definitions of either term, but have gleaned the meaning from the context as used in general usage.
A "buttmonkey" is a sycophant, a brownnoser, a flunky, a tame goon, a servile asskisser. Someone who when their master says "frog," not only jumps, but starts eating flies. Best use on TV recently was when Xander on "Buffy" was enslaved by Count Dracula and became a servile "Renfield" type (and, incidentally, ate flies.) The term "buttmonkey" for this situation was used by others and himself in this show.
"Psycho Hose Beast" derives from a first use (as far as I know) in "Wayne's World," where it is used to describe a highly obsessed girlfriend. I have no idea of its derivation. As I have seen it used, it describes someone who takes a given point of view and not only goes out to the edge with it in crazed enthusiasm, but often right over that edge. These people are not in the middle of the road, but scraping the paint off on the guardrails. The term applies, interestingly, regardless of whether the position taken is valid or not.
There are actually several conservative psycho hose beasts who hold views I generally agree with, but they tend to grab these views by the shoulders and shake them into insensibility. On conservative talk radio, Michael Savage is a Psycho Hose Beast, First Class. Rush Limbaugh is not, and neither was Newt Gingrich. G. Gordon Liddy might be, but I never listen to him. Ann Coulter qualifies in a lot of cases. Ted Nugent ought to be one, but he's too cool.
There are LOTS of liberal psycho hose beasts. James Carville's picture is in the dictionary next to the term.
