None of the designs seemed to say "new millennium" to me.
My choice:
The Atomic Vortex Tower would have a built in safety device in the form of a natural slide for evacuation in case of emergency like the worlds biggest vortical waterslide. So in case of fire or some crazy Islamic terrorist in a 727 everyone can bail out the windows. It also is designed to be resistant to commit suicide by jumping from any of the top floors.
That top beacon is a combination night lighting, laser control and broadcast satellite center. It also has certain security functions. The pools are very shallow reflecting pools with swans, peacocks, fountains and small waterfalls.
The glass is indeed metallic gold hued and created by an electric current similar to thistechnology.
Leaving the site empty is simply economically unsound. Reproducing 1970's WTC technology seems a waste as well, and might attract more terror attacks. I think it's wise to make a building that truly inspires while serving as less of a memorial and more of a triumph of capitalism. The gold hue is spiritual yet also serves as a reminiscent of capitalism's triumph.
This is the sort of building you would see on that "shining city on the hill" which Reagan spoke of so eloquently.
If one's going to replace it - "Go for the gold!"
